We were concerned Saturday July 26th that the President's Summer Sizzle Tour might be more like a drizzle tour, but alas the cloudy drive through Beachburg and along the Queens Line to Chenaux was about to change for the better. Once we arrived at Norway Bay and settled in at the River View Inn, we enjoyed sunshine and the southern balmy breeze off the Ottawa River. It was delightful! A nice summer picnic-style outing. After some pleasant socializing on the patio and with some searching for the beach (some searched farther than others) and Shirley Mullen did a marathon - we were treated right on time to BBQ'd hamburgers, sweet corn on the cob and summer salads. To top it all off, the ACCP's 45th year was marked with a big birthday cake, big enough to be shared by all 31 in attendance. Calvin TerMarsch was also serenaded as a July birthday boy.
On the way home, some of us toured down to Don & Sue Page's place to view the new garage… oops… edifice that they have erected. We left a note in the door to let them know that we'd been there. They were in Toronto and only the African cat greeted us.
Our meeting will be held courtesy of the Champlain Trail Museum outdoors near the train station display starting at 7:00 pm. Bring your lawn chairs. Speaking of the museum, who can forget the Strawberry Social on June 29th when we had about thirty cars, trucks and tractors on display for the car show? More detail on this in The Quail. We were so pleased to welcome Terry & Sharlene Irish, Earl & Marion Earl and Jack & Lillian Paul from Rideau Lakes Region of ACCC. On their arrival, we enjoyed dinner at The Shanty House with reminiscences of great Smiths Falls tours in past years.
Mark your calendars for the August 9th Car Show at The River Club in Portage du Fort. Wayne Brohart and I are working with Ted Howard of the Club to make this a good regional show. Invites are out to all area clubs. For our part, the Cadillac will be there.
