President's Page January 2013 ~ Our 50th Year

Happy New Year to members and friends!

As this message is being prepared, Christmas Day is only a week away. The holiday season, a heartfelt time for family gatherings, the time of year we embrace traditions - Santa Claus parades, concerts and Carol singing to festive baking, cooking, decorating of our homes. This all reminds us of the basis of our Christian values and the importance of family and friends.

Our Christmas Shine at the Seniors Centre was a wonderful evening and enjoyed by all. This location seems ideal for the members and guests. Thank you, Lorne and Myrna Troutman for your dedication in making this nicely-appointed hall a welcoming place for all of us. Thank you Gale and John Hanson for your selection and presentation of Santa gifts. Santa, on a rush trip from the North Pole, was able to quickly prepare, even with growing a foot-long snow-white beard! Thank you Neil and other members of the Antique Car Tunes and our guest soloist Kaye O’Gorman, for the wonderful holiday music. Our Christmas was made extra special with having Ellen and Brian Black join us, thanks to the limousine services of Ron and Dawn Roy. It was also a pleasure to have our member Gerry Binhammer join us. I will note here that, as in previous years, Gerry has given a cash donation to the club, along with a lovely Christmas cake which was one of the door prizes. Ellen and Brian Black also gave a donation towards club Christmas expenses. Our thanks to all of you for your kindness and generosity making this festive event memorable.

The President’s Trophy was presented to Lori and Neil Videto in recognition of their robust attendance and support for meetings, tours and events. The Crank-of-the-Year was given to Gale and John Hanson, who are recognized as being the spark that adds to meetings and outings. The infamous Door Prize, by golly, was given to Wally Cochrane, a longstanding member and supporter of our fine hobby (having just brought a new Model A Ford to town). I suggest that you please bring trophies to January meeting for engraving preparation.

We now move forward into our golden anniversary year! In keeping with our celebration, we can look forward to Flying Quail cover pages being in colour thanks to the motion at December’s meeting. We look forward to an exciting year of publication with our newsletter and with our upcoming Anniversary yearbook. The ACCP is your club and we have a wealth of history from which we will draw to compile our 50-year record by the end of this year.

Come to the January meeting with your ideas for tours that we might consider taking this year. Better yet, come prepared to take on the task of one or more of our monthly events. This will allow us to pencil in on the calendar those traditional events that we enjoy.

Our January 2nd Meeting will be held at Joey’s Restaurant, starting with social time at 5:30, dinner at 6:00 and meeting at 7. It will be a New Year for Auction items (unless you have a lot of Christmas decorations left over )

Wishing you and your family a most healthy, safe and happy New Year!

Delores

President's Page December 2012

What a beautiful “warmer-than-normal” November with clear skies and spectacular sunsets. We are now into the “sunset” of 2012, with the Santa Claus Parade and preparations of our Christmas Shine. Thanks to the many members who have volunteered their time, talent and homes to make these events successful and satisfying.

By now, most of our old vehicles are nicely tucked away for the winter. Our Caddie and boat are hibernating at the Renfrew fairgrounds this year but Dave is keeping the Model A at home for some upgrades. He has been taking it for little jaunts into Renfrew or to the cottage while the weather has been so favourable.

We have a committee of volunteers for our ACCP 50th Anniversary Yearbook. If others of you are interested in helping, let us know. There is a cache already of very old club pictures, but there will be many more that you can make available. If you wish to submit some, please try to identify people, dates and places and write your name on the back so that all your material is duly credited and that it can be returned to you.

There have been suggestions from members for special events to undertake in 2013. These even include long-range excursions over a few days to places in and out of the country. One such tour that has merit might see us heading down through Athens to visit the Tackaberry Collection and on to the

Thousand Islands for a river cruise and maybe a jaunt to the Clayton NY Museum. Other ideas are out there too, so let’s discuss options at the December meeting for starters.

Our club can boast another successful year. The list of events is impressive: Winterlude at Popkie’s Mill; Strawberry Social at Champlain Trail Museum; the chilly A & W Cruise Night; Castleford/Pakenham/Renfrew Tour to celebrate Dub Juby’s birthday and visit the Pinnacle Hill Look-out; Eganville’s Melissa Bishop Olympic Parade; the Petawawa, Killaloe, Griffith and Renfrew car shows; the President’s Tour through the Westmeath - Roche Fendu region over to Portage-du-Fort; the Sing-A-Long Grease Movie at Festival Hall; Renfrew County Plowing Match; the Oktoberfest Parade at Ladysmith and most recently Pembroke’s novel Caribbean Christmas Parade.

Our Club has welcomed new members this year - Dub & Frankie Juby, Mario & Carolyn Correia, Doug & Lynda Janney and Leo and Gloria Harris. We are saddened by the passing of member Stanley Priebe and as well, the club has sent condolences to other members who have had deaths in their families. The club continues to demonstrate its “family value” in times of loss or hardship. This continues to make our club meaningful and a fine part of our lives as it nears the fifty year milestone.

As President, I take this opportunity at year-end to thank everyone for your enthusiasm and innovative thoughts in club matters. The support of the executive has allowed us to steer through a busy and interesting year. Thanks to Treasurer Wendy, Secretary Dave, Cathy ~ Benevolence, Wayne ~ Membership, Bob & Mae ~ Quail. I look forward to working with you in our special New Year. In closing, I wish you all a healthy, happy and safe Christmas.

Hello all. Our beautiful fall colours lingering well into this month is such a bonus. While we didn’t proceed with a colour tour, many members have been touring around and meeting each other here and there. Such a lovely fall should remind us to give thanks for the collective wealth we share in Canada for security and freedom.

Our October meeting at the Sands on Golden Lake was most enjoyable – there’s not a better place to enjoy the sunset than there! Thanks to Jeff and Jeff who were most gracious in giving us the downstairs meeting room gratis.

Our Car Club is always welcomed at Oktoberfest in Ladysmith. Some of our members have gone there since the early 1970s when it was more of a steam & machinery show. While the weather was a bit threatening, it really didn’t rain until well after the parade and afternoon show. It was another fun family outing for us this year.

Our club, has lost one of its longstanding members with the passing of Stanley Priebe. Stan passed away on Sunday, October 21st. Stan joined us in Eganville’s “Melissa Bishop parade” in the 1939 Chevrolet and at the Renfrew Car Show too. Only in the past couple of weeks he had been in the Pembroke Regional Hospital. As you read this, we will have been involved in the funeral. Please keep Lila and family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time for them.

As we wind down somewhat from driving season events, the “calendar” is considerably smaller. Likely most members have tucked their vehicles away for hibernation, although with this nice weather some may be holding out for another tour, even if it’s on their own. The Caddy still gets out for a spin as I tour with the keyboard and amp in the back with others in the Car Tunes band. Everything fits nicely into that back seat rather than into my little Suzuki. Dave has plans to put it away this week in Renfrew, but the Model A will stay here in our barn so he can do some work on it over winter.

The Christmas Shine banquet and dance on Saturday, December 8th is coming together nicely. Lorne Troutman has designed and printed tickets so they’ll be available at our meeting in November. The cost is $25.00 per person, which includes a full course turkey and roast beef dinner with all the trimmings. Gail Hanson has worked her magic in buying all the special door prizes for that evening. I am told that John has been conscripted to do the wrapping. Our thanks goes out to them. Our Antique Car Tunes & Christmas CD’s will be playing for that evening. We invite other musical members to please join in with us. The more the merrier. The Car Tunes volunteer at many Seniors’ residences through the year and we do have a lot of fun. We are always open to others joining us. Kaye O’Gorman has volunteered to entertain with her keyboard talents and singing voice. Speaking of singing, here’s a personal invitation to Wally Cochrane to join in too.

I encourage all members to search for old Christmas ornaments, etc. for our auction. Proceeds from November and December offset the expenses for the Christmas banquet. November 7th Meeting at Joey’s Restaurant, Social 5:30, Dinner at 6:00 followed by meeting at 7:00.

Hello to members and friends: Here we are well into September, enjoying the onset of Fall with the prospect of beautiful autumn foliage just starting in the Valley. Thanks to the recent rains, our lawns, fields and trees have recovered nicely but our rivers and lakes are desparately low. Many of us enjoyed the sunny afternoon with our meeting at the top of the mountain at the North Fork ranch. Thanks to Shirley and Ellsworth for making this a unique meeting venue and another enjoyable event for all of us. Memorable too was the special serenade to Ralph Lemke; “Happy Birthday Mr. President”, performed Marilyn Munroe-style by our wonderful waitress. No doubt we’ll have enjoyed more of the 50’s and 60’s style singing at this Saturday’s Sing-A-Long Grease Movie at Festival Hall. I hear a few of our group are going in full costume. Thanks to members and friends for the wonderful show of support for our Ottawa Valley Olympian, Melissa Bishop. There were well over eighty antique autos that made up the parade through the village of Eganville in full sunshine. Our cover picture illustrates how special this event was, not only to Eganville, but as well to many from across the Valley. Thanks to all for helping to make this a special day. There was a great write up in the Leader and speaking of that, the latest issue features Ike and Mike who were at the Renfrew County Plowing Match. Many others of us were on display that day at the Renfrew Fair Grounds for a great car show. Mario and Carol headed to Stowe, Vermont in their TR6 to a British Car Show that attracts about a thousand British classic cars, with the added bonus of a British Invasion style band of ‘Beatle-look-a-likes’, We will get to hear about all of these events at our next meeting. Many of our members and the Antique Car Tunes Band entertained with cars and music at Supples Landing on Sept. 19th evening. Oktoberfest takes place in Ladysmith a bit earlier this year - the last weekend of September. As other years, we will be leaving TerMarsch’s at 9am sharp on the Sunday the 30th, others will be joining in at the Four Corners at Cheneaux. Registration at Ladysmith begins at 10:00 am, with the Parade at noon. There’s always a lot to see with artisans and vendors of crafts, furniture, and homemade goodies. The club always receives an invitation from the organizers. This year the German bands include: Shteev und die Lederhosers and the Schuhplattler German Dancers will entertain us all day. The October meeting will take place October 3rd, at The Sands on Golden Lake. (Hwy 60 at Deacon 613-625-2525). Dinner will be served at 6:00 pm, followed by the meeting downstairs at 7:00 pm. A special well-priced four-entrée menu is being offered as before. Remember to bring your auction items. One of our major investors, Myrna and Lorne are back now back from New Brunswick and no doubt they will be anxious to purchase some new treasures to catch up for lost time. Looking forward to seeing you all soon, best wishes to all for pleasant and safe journeys. Delores

Hello to all members and friends of the Antique Car Club of Pembroke. We had a wonderful August meeting gathering of members at the Pembroke Waterfront Park. Three of our four new member couples were formally introduced and welcomed to the club, Leo & Gloria Harris, Doug & Lynda Janney and latterly Carol and Mario Correia. You all know Dub & Frankie Juby from our visits to their place. Mario and Carol who hail from Sand Bay QC (in winter) are acquaintances of John & Gale Hanson and are our latest new members, bringing to the roster a couple of Mercedes, a Triumph TR6 and there’s an MG being restored in their shop at present. It was great to see some old faces back from the Atlantic Provinces, Lori and Neil to his stomping grounds of Nova Scotia and Mae and Bob McCauley who probably got re-“Screeched in” in Newfoundland & Labrador. Both these couples also visited the Troutmans in New Brunswick, so we look forward to hearing all the stories when you are all back together. Welcome back! The month of August has been chock full with lots of events and tours going on. The Antique Car Tunes have had some pleasant outings too, recently in Eganville and Pembroke. While some of us are unable to attend every outing, we’re seeing robust attendance. Everyone is busy in summer, but the attendance demonstrates great club spirit. Looking forward to fall, we will have a full calendar too. The mysterious President’s Tour on August 12th was a nice time. Our first stop at Wayne & Carol Campbell’s Hila Science Camp was enlightening with information on fossils and early Aboriginal tools found in the area. Wayne produced a short video of our arrival and departure that’s posted on our ACCP web site. The weather cooperated except for a brief downpour as we headed along the Kerr Line. We will have to hear from John & Therese Power as to how the bright red Jeep fared out without side curtains. With our two cars on this tour, I had Myrna Stresman along as a travel companion in the Caddy while and Dave and Don toured in the Model A. All in all, we had twenty six members join in on the tour followed by a most enjoyable meal at Bateau Royale in Portage du Fort. Our next meeting will be an afternoon meeting on Wednesday, September 5th, at North Fork just out of Chichester QC. For those of you who took in our March Sleigh Ride Meeting there, you’ll know the way. For those that have not been there before and would like to travel together, we will meet at the River Club just over the bridge to Quebec (right hand side) at 4 p.m. sharp. (NOTE, there’s some gravel road). The meeting takes place at 4:30 followed by dinner at 6:00. Remember to bring your special auction sale items. If you need any additional information, please call or email. Happy and Save Cruising to all.

Hello to Members and friends of the Antique Car Club of Pembroke family. Our July meeting at the Pembroke Waterfront Park provided a warm, fresh-air atmosphere for members and guests with a view of the Ottawa River and our cars provided an attraction for strollers. It was most pleasing to see you all and also see new faces and new vehicles. Of great interest was the presentation of three membership applications and ensuing acceptance of three couples to the club family. Included are former tour guests Dub & Frankie Juby of Castleford and Leo & Gloria Harris of Shawville. New to the group will be Doug & Lynda Janney who hail from Renfrew. To the list of vehicles we can now add a 1957 Studebaker, a 1965 Chevrolet Impala convertible and a 1967 Chrysler Newport and 1968 Dodge Monaco convertible. Welcome all! I trust all of us are enjoying the “good old summertime weather”. Last evening Dave and I took a drive in the Model A along the newly paved (from Douglas to Renfrew) Highway 60 to enjoy an ice cream treat at Dairy Queen. It was a great way to cool off. Many main street shoppers enjoyed the “aoogah” horn as we passed through Renfrew (almost as much as Dave enjoyed honking it). This past Wednesday, being the third Wednesday of the month, John & Gail, Mack & Lorraine, Wendy & Phil and Dave & I all met at TerMarsch’s for a tour to the waterfront for some Tracey’s ice cream alongside the park band shell to listen some great music. We all had a nice visit and got a wonderful report from Phil & Wendy on the Great Race activities in Barry’s Bay on June 26th. As you will see, our cover picture and inside page feature the event. This coming month, we have some tours and events planned. Please refer to the enclosed Calendar of Events for an update of some August activities. As most of us will be heading out for some vacation time - some setting up in their favourite campsites, relaxing at the cottage and others on the road sight-seeing, we wish you all happy and safe journeys with family and friends, wherever you’re heading. Looking forward to seeing you all on the 1st of August at the Pembroke Waterfront Park, let’s hope for some rain in the meantime (as long as it’s not on Wednessday evening). Remember to bring your treasures for the auction sale and some cash to buy some too.

July President's Page

Summer is here; we’re blessed with warm, sunny days – let’s enjoy! We have had a few fun events already with our vehicles – the month of June has been a full schedule. Father’s Day gave us great weather. We spent ours at the cottage, with a refreshing boat cruise on “Golden Pond” followed with a BBQ. Dave brought the ’31 Model A to the lake for the first time – claiming this was his father’s day gift. Looking ahead, we will be sure to have an action-packed summer. Check the Calendar of Events – it’s filling in nicely, following a full slate of activity in June. The office of the President was made aware of a special lucky draw that took place in Merrickville. Out of the eight couples only one person was lucky enough to win a special draw for the coveted “I’m Air Force” T-shirt. Ron Roy was elated, we’re told, when he excitedly unwrapped the dainty pink tissue paper. We trust that he will sport this new garment at his earliest convenience. (it might be a nice match for Bob McCauley’s chiffon green nightie from Alexandria Bay NY). (you had to be there…) This month several of our members will be heading out of the province for summer holidays away. New Brunswick and Newfoundland will be treated to some Ottawa Valley spice and vice-versa. Have a drink for us. We have resolved to work to keep the appearance of our newsletter The Flying Quail top notch. Typed articles are welcome – in that vein, thanks to Ralph Lemke for his contribution of early Pembroke reminiscences – nicely linked to the recent unveiling of the 1923 Bickle at Pembroke Fire Station No. 3 at Champlain Trail Museum & Pioneer Village. Going forward, we intend to insert pertinent stories that can connect us to the glorious past in automotive terms. If you have a story to convey – please get it together and drop it off at TerMarsch’s. Don’t’ be shy. Keep in mind that our 50th Anniversary Commemorative book is something we can all contribute to. Dean Lapierre has let it be known that a September Island Tour will be an event that he and Anita & Lucas will pull together. Given the latest Model A on Fraser Street, Dean labels this tour as a 40 mph tour, meaning it will be at a slow pace around the Island (all paved roads). See you on July 4th. Delores

Hello to all members and friends of the ACCP family: We are moving nicely into the summer cruise and event season. Our meeting at Joey’s gave us an indication that we are all anxious to get the carbon out of the system and get ‘on the road again’. I trust our Moms all had a wonderful, relaxing Mother’s Day with family. Fathers Day is just around the corner. Ladies, we will need to watch for just the right item for them at our next auction. By the time you receive this, some of us will have toured in their RVs to Sterling; attended the display of our antique autos at the Pembroke Mall as our Third Wednesday event, some of our gentleman will have served breakfast to the grateful residents at Supples Landing and for the long weekend in May, joined in on Ralph & Dave’s tour to Castleford and White Lake includes a special stop at the lookout tower at Renfrew’s Pinnacle Hill and then dinner there at the Rocky Mountain House. Our Flying Quail cover this month features the W.D. Stalker Steam Warping Tug or “Alligator Boat” that’s been in the Valley since last year’s Renfrew County EXPO 150. This has been Dave’s second “hobby” of late and he and the steam crew from Simcoe Ontario are making plans for the Alligator to be part of Ottawa’s Rideau Canal Festival Flotilla in August. The Alligator, registered to the home port of Nanticoke on Lake Erie, has been moored over winter at Peter and Barbara Haughton’s near Bristol QC. They have had all kinds of visitors to their museum and are pleased to be able to present this boat too. This year’s Norway Bay to Braeside Flotilla takes place on June 23rd. Our lives are richer through these connections along with the fun times of travelling the roads and the rivers. Let’s continue to enjoy the fun times as club members and friends. I have inserted a June/July calendar and have marked the upcoming events that we have discussed. As you can see, it’s shaping up to be a busy summer. In seven months time we will have reached our 50th Car Club anniversary and I strongly urge that members give thought to special pictures, events and other memorabilia to present to our Yearbook committee. Your collective input will be the basis for the success of this special record. Be sure to place your name on the back of pictures you submit so they can be returned to you in due course. Our ACCP meeting is at the Marina on Wednesday, June 6th. Bring your lawn chair and your pleasant self. Delores

President's Page May 2012

This is a ‘Happy‘ May Day call to all our members and friends. “Spring has sprung the grass has risen I wonder where my old car is’n?” Don’t forget that May is the start of our driving months and the draw for a cash prize. We had a successful meeting at the museum in April with prospects by some members for our summer’s calendar of events. There are plans taking shape already for our 50th year in 2013! We have a new committee forming to undertake a Golden Jubilee Booklet that will be wonderful way to celebrate this milestone year. At the meeting in May we can firm up the summer events and tours. By the time you read this issue of the Flying Quail some of you will have had experienced this year’s Sneak-a-Peak at the Champlain Museum. Others will have been involved with the Car Show at the Petawawa Civic Centre April 27-29. We will be pleased to hear your reports. I had suggested last meeting perhaps a few member couples could pair up to take on the organizing of a tour or event. I understand that Ralph & Marilyn and Dave & I are going to build a tour that will make a stop at Dub & Frankie Juby’s along the River Road and from there, we will tour cross-country in the general direction of White Lake and Calabogie and Burnstown with supper in Renfrew. Of course there are all the car shows around Eastern Ontario that so many of you attend. We plan to fill up a calendar that will be printed in the Flying Quail to try to capture all the dates that need to be remembered. We know that so many of you take the time to use your RVs and campers at some of the car events. To set the stage for May, we have included Neil & Lori’s camper on the cover. May’s meeting is being held at Joey’s Only Restaurant with the diner at 6:00 and the meeting starting at about 7:00. Get at your spring cleaning and bring along some more treasures for auction. The 50/50 draw last month was won by Myrna who reinvested her money wisely and purchased more treasures. She knows that Father’s Day is just around the corner and Lorne loves to fill the empty corners and rafters of his garage. Thanks to all you hardy souls who lug the “new-to-you” items in for our sale. The club benefits so much from this fun exercise. There aren’t many meetings that you don’t go home without having had a good belly laugh, so it’s beneficial in many ways. Enjoy the springtime as it blossoms all around us. It’s a beautiful time of year!

Happy Spring to all Members and Friends! What a season it has been so far! The March meeting at North Fork in Chichester was blessed with the best of this beautiful weather that we have had all month.
It must have been the ‘luck o’ the Irish’. A great big “thank you” to Shirley and Ellsworth Mullen who made all the arrangements, including that wonderful sleigh ride through the woods, the cozy lodge for our meeting venue and up-front ordering of the dinner. We had to coax a few to climb on board the sleigh, but clearly everyone thoroughly enjoyed the event, from, the good humour of the teamster to the very good humour of our waitress. The hat that was passed around for tips demonstrated our gratitude, clearly.

Speaking of the ‘luck o’ the Irish’, some of our members were among the three- thousand who lined the streets to enjoy the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Douglas.
This was the first time there’s been a parade to mark St. Patrick’s Day in Douglas and we’re sure it will become tradition. Once again, great weather for the over 70 floats that took over an hour to wend its way through the village. Kevin and Kaye were all decked out on the O’Gorman Family float.

Don’t miss getting a copy of the Eganville Leader to read all about it.

After living in Douglas for 35 years, we can always expect to have guests, so Irish Stew is prepared ahead and on hand at Maplebrae. This year, for good measure, I had made some fish chowder (being Friday and all) and it was wonderful to have our ACCP friends, Mullens and Stresmans, along with Andrea’s new Beachburg clan and even our Doctor and wife from Burnstown drop in to help us celebrate.

With this summer weather we’re having, the old vehicles are coming out of storage. Dave reported that Lorne and Myrna Troutman had their Maxwell and Model A out in the lane, all shined up and ready for a tour. Our Caddie has just arrived home in Douglas and you’re all likely in the same frame of mind – getting the old cars out. Over all the past years, our club has had so many interesting and successful tours and events. While there was the suggestion that we resume our 3rd Wednesday evening mini-tours in town, let’s also work together and put our thinking caps on to plan a few special day trips through the Valley. I would like to challenge a few couples to propose some dates and tour plans at this meeting.

Our April meeting will be back at the Champlain Trail Museum on Wednesday the 4th. With this mild weather, I am sure we’ll see a lot of the old cars and trucks out. With spring-cleaning, likely you have discovered some treasures from the past – bring them along for our auction. It’s good fun and puts a few dollars in the bank for our special events.

It’s already March, so from Douglas, here’s an Irish ‘Top o’ the Morning’ greeting to all ACCP members and friends (whether you’re Irish or not).

As we hold our March meeting, we will be welcoming some members back from the Caribbean and most of us know others who are still basking in the tropical sun. Many of us are suffering the onset of cabin fever but have faith, the days are getting longer and the sunshine stronger.

We are introducing a new twist of our March dinner-meeting with a special trek on Wednesday the 7th across the river to Auberge Northfork at Chicester, Quebec. Shirley and Ellsworth have contacted all members to outline the activities taking place that afternoon. They confirm that it is a definite go, with a good number of us planning to take this in. This will combine our traditional sleigh ride event with a special dinner that only Northfork folks can put on. It will be like a trip back to the old days with a homestead-style sleigh ride at 3:00 pm followed by the ACCP meeting at 4:15 pm and dinner at 6:00 pm. We know that some stalwart members will not be able to get to this afternoon event - we apologize to you for this.

So if you haven’t already confirmed with Shirley that you’re on board for this exciting event, give her a call right away. If anyone would appreciate the opportunity to car pool or be chauffeured to Northfork we can make this happen. The plan is to meet at Mullen’s home at 26 Cotnam Street on Cotnam Island at 2:15 pm on March 7th. If we can help with transportation, please call them in advance at 613-638-8206.

Nineteen ACCP members enjoyed the Winter Picnic at Popkie’s Sawmill. Thanks to the organizing team of Don and Myrna Stresman, Neil and Lori Videto and Jeff and Kathy Videto. We enjoyed reviewing old club pictures, listening to good music and snacking on a great potluck meal. Neil orchestrated a three-round trivia match that tested our memory on milestones and advances in automotive history. Performance was gender-neutral as the ladies gave as good as the men with these brain teasers.

The Club presented Ken Popkie with a $25.00 Shell gas certificate as a token of our thanks for opening his doors once again and providing us with a clean and cozy shop in which to enjoy our February 19th Winterlude.

At time of writing, we are looking forward to the annual Spaghetti Feast at Dore Bay Country Club on Sunday the 26th. These events out at Dore Bay continue to be enjoyed by members of both the DBCC and ACCP. Our car club participation is always a great boost to the Dore Bay organizers and they always look forward to our participation.

Here’s a “summery” picture to bring you “wintery” Hello to members and friends of the Antique Car Club of Pembroke…

On the tailgate of one month into the New Year, we’ve been fortunate to have pleasant winter weather and relatively good health for all our members. Ron and Lorne are each on the mend after some reconstructive surgery to shoulder and hand (respectively). Then there are some lucky members leaving for a Caribbean cruise. Perhaps, someday that could be a good meeting venue.

As we leap into February, we can look forward to events and touring for our 49th year as a club. As you know, our dues are due at the beginning of each year. A number of members addressed their pending dues at last month’s meeting. For those of you that haven’t had a chance to settle up with Wendy our Treasurer, you may wish to do this at our February meeting or stop by ahead of the meeting at her office. As has always been the case, there’s a smiling face behind the desk at TerMarsch’s. The cost is $35.00 per couple/member. As we decided at the January meeting, our February meeting will be a dinner meeting. After some investigation, we have decided to return to “Joey’s Only Restaurant”. The dinner will be at 6:00 pm and the meeting to follow at approximately 7:00 pm. We ask that all of you bring your sweethearts. (During the driving months this ‘sweetheart’ phrase would mean bringing your antique car as well).

Starting with a fun evening January 20th at the Seniors Centre organized by Lorne & Mryna, we can look forward to an eventful year. There’s talk of a movie-brunch and also a sleigh ride & dinner at Northfork, Quebec. Dore Bay Country Club members are working to fix some water damage – so stay tuned for news about the Spaghetti Feast.

You will see in this Flying Quail, we have added some ‘comfort food’ recipes. Also a ‘chuckle and restore’ column has been added. Both of these inserts are strictly fillers. If you have some interesting information or pictures you would like to share, please feel free to get this to our Chief Editor and Editor’ess (a.k.a. Bob & Mae) before the third Friday of the month.

Looking forward to seeing you all on February 1st for our dinner meeting at:
“Joey’s Only Restaurant”

Happy Valentine’s Day to all!
