It’s already March, so from Douglas, here’s an Irish ‘Top o’ the Morning’ greeting to all ACCP members and friends (whether you’re Irish or not).
As we hold our March meeting, we will be welcoming some members back from the Caribbean and most of us know others who are still basking in the tropical sun. Many of us are suffering the onset of cabin fever but have faith, the days are getting longer and the sunshine stronger.
We are introducing a new twist of our March dinner-meeting with a special trek on Wednesday the 7th across the river to Auberge Northfork at Chicester, Quebec. Shirley and Ellsworth have contacted all members to outline the activities taking place that afternoon. They confirm that it is a definite go, with a good number of us planning to take this in. This will combine our traditional sleigh ride event with a special dinner that only Northfork folks can put on. It will be like a trip back to the old days with a homestead-style sleigh ride at 3:00 pm followed by the ACCP meeting at 4:15 pm and dinner at 6:00 pm. We know that some stalwart members will not be able to get to this afternoon event - we apologize to you for this.
So if you haven’t already confirmed with Shirley that you’re on board for this exciting event, give her a call right away. If anyone would appreciate the opportunity to car pool or be chauffeured to Northfork we can make this happen. The plan is to meet at Mullen’s home at 26 Cotnam Street on Cotnam Island at 2:15 pm on March 7th. If we can help with transportation, please call them in advance at 613-638-8206.
Nineteen ACCP members enjoyed the Winter Picnic at Popkie’s Sawmill. Thanks to the organizing team of Don and Myrna Stresman, Neil and Lori Videto and Jeff and Kathy Videto. We enjoyed reviewing old club pictures, listening to good music and snacking on a great potluck meal. Neil orchestrated a three-round trivia match that tested our memory on milestones and advances in automotive history. Performance was gender-neutral as the ladies gave as good as the men with these brain teasers.
The Club presented Ken Popkie with a $25.00 Shell gas certificate as a token of our thanks for opening his doors once again and providing us with a clean and cozy shop in which to enjoy our February 19th Winterlude.
At time of writing, we are looking forward to the annual Spaghetti Feast at Dore Bay Country Club on Sunday the 26th. These events out at Dore Bay continue to be enjoyed by members of both the DBCC and ACCP. Our car club participation is always a great boost to the Dore Bay organizers and they always look forward to our participation.
