President's Page May 2012

This is a ‘Happy‘ May Day call to all our members and friends. “Spring has sprung the grass has risen I wonder where my old car is’n?” Don’t forget that May is the start of our driving months and the draw for a cash prize. We had a successful meeting at the museum in April with prospects by some members for our summer’s calendar of events. There are plans taking shape already for our 50th year in 2013! We have a new committee forming to undertake a Golden Jubilee Booklet that will be wonderful way to celebrate this milestone year. At the meeting in May we can firm up the summer events and tours. By the time you read this issue of the Flying Quail some of you will have had experienced this year’s Sneak-a-Peak at the Champlain Museum. Others will have been involved with the Car Show at the Petawawa Civic Centre April 27-29. We will be pleased to hear your reports. I had suggested last meeting perhaps a few member couples could pair up to take on the organizing of a tour or event. I understand that Ralph & Marilyn and Dave & I are going to build a tour that will make a stop at Dub & Frankie Juby’s along the River Road and from there, we will tour cross-country in the general direction of White Lake and Calabogie and Burnstown with supper in Renfrew. Of course there are all the car shows around Eastern Ontario that so many of you attend. We plan to fill up a calendar that will be printed in the Flying Quail to try to capture all the dates that need to be remembered. We know that so many of you take the time to use your RVs and campers at some of the car events. To set the stage for May, we have included Neil & Lori’s camper on the cover. May’s meeting is being held at Joey’s Only Restaurant with the diner at 6:00 and the meeting starting at about 7:00. Get at your spring cleaning and bring along some more treasures for auction. The 50/50 draw last month was won by Myrna who reinvested her money wisely and purchased more treasures. She knows that Father’s Day is just around the corner and Lorne loves to fill the empty corners and rafters of his garage. Thanks to all you hardy souls who lug the “new-to-you” items in for our sale. The club benefits so much from this fun exercise. There aren’t many meetings that you don’t go home without having had a good belly laugh, so it’s beneficial in many ways. Enjoy the springtime as it blossoms all around us. It’s a beautiful time of year!
