President's Page September 2012

Hello to all members and friends of the Antique Car Club of Pembroke. We had a wonderful August meeting gathering of members at the Pembroke Waterfront Park. Three of our four new member couples were formally introduced and welcomed to the club, Leo & Gloria Harris, Doug & Lynda Janney and latterly Carol and Mario Correia. You all know Dub & Frankie Juby from our visits to their place. Mario and Carol who hail from Sand Bay QC (in winter) are acquaintances of John & Gale Hanson and are our latest new members, bringing to the roster a couple of Mercedes, a Triumph TR6 and there’s an MG being restored in their shop at present. It was great to see some old faces back from the Atlantic Provinces, Lori and Neil to his stomping grounds of Nova Scotia and Mae and Bob McCauley who probably got re-“Screeched in” in Newfoundland & Labrador. Both these couples also visited the Troutmans in New Brunswick, so we look forward to hearing all the stories when you are all back together. Welcome back! The month of August has been chock full with lots of events and tours going on. The Antique Car Tunes have had some pleasant outings too, recently in Eganville and Pembroke. While some of us are unable to attend every outing, we’re seeing robust attendance. Everyone is busy in summer, but the attendance demonstrates great club spirit. Looking forward to fall, we will have a full calendar too. The mysterious President’s Tour on August 12th was a nice time. Our first stop at Wayne & Carol Campbell’s Hila Science Camp was enlightening with information on fossils and early Aboriginal tools found in the area. Wayne produced a short video of our arrival and departure that’s posted on our ACCP web site. The weather cooperated except for a brief downpour as we headed along the Kerr Line. We will have to hear from John & Therese Power as to how the bright red Jeep fared out without side curtains. With our two cars on this tour, I had Myrna Stresman along as a travel companion in the Caddy while and Dave and Don toured in the Model A. All in all, we had twenty six members join in on the tour followed by a most enjoyable meal at Bateau Royale in Portage du Fort. Our next meeting will be an afternoon meeting on Wednesday, September 5th, at North Fork just out of Chichester QC. For those of you who took in our March Sleigh Ride Meeting there, you’ll know the way. For those that have not been there before and would like to travel together, we will meet at the River Club just over the bridge to Quebec (right hand side) at 4 p.m. sharp. (NOTE, there’s some gravel road). The meeting takes place at 4:30 followed by dinner at 6:00. Remember to bring your special auction sale items. If you need any additional information, please call or email. Happy and Save Cruising to all.

Hello to Members and friends of the Antique Car Club of Pembroke family. Our July meeting at the Pembroke Waterfront Park provided a warm, fresh-air atmosphere for members and guests with a view of the Ottawa River and our cars provided an attraction for strollers. It was most pleasing to see you all and also see new faces and new vehicles. Of great interest was the presentation of three membership applications and ensuing acceptance of three couples to the club family. Included are former tour guests Dub & Frankie Juby of Castleford and Leo & Gloria Harris of Shawville. New to the group will be Doug & Lynda Janney who hail from Renfrew. To the list of vehicles we can now add a 1957 Studebaker, a 1965 Chevrolet Impala convertible and a 1967 Chrysler Newport and 1968 Dodge Monaco convertible. Welcome all! I trust all of us are enjoying the “good old summertime weather”. Last evening Dave and I took a drive in the Model A along the newly paved (from Douglas to Renfrew) Highway 60 to enjoy an ice cream treat at Dairy Queen. It was a great way to cool off. Many main street shoppers enjoyed the “aoogah” horn as we passed through Renfrew (almost as much as Dave enjoyed honking it). This past Wednesday, being the third Wednesday of the month, John & Gail, Mack & Lorraine, Wendy & Phil and Dave & I all met at TerMarsch’s for a tour to the waterfront for some Tracey’s ice cream alongside the park band shell to listen some great music. We all had a nice visit and got a wonderful report from Phil & Wendy on the Great Race activities in Barry’s Bay on June 26th. As you will see, our cover picture and inside page feature the event. This coming month, we have some tours and events planned. Please refer to the enclosed Calendar of Events for an update of some August activities. As most of us will be heading out for some vacation time - some setting up in their favourite campsites, relaxing at the cottage and others on the road sight-seeing, we wish you all happy and safe journeys with family and friends, wherever you’re heading. Looking forward to seeing you all on the 1st of August at the Pembroke Waterfront Park, let’s hope for some rain in the meantime (as long as it’s not on Wednessday evening). Remember to bring your treasures for the auction sale and some cash to buy some too.
