President's Page October 2012
Hello to members and friends:
Here we are well into September, enjoying the onset of Fall with the prospect of beautiful autumn foliage just starting in the Valley. Thanks to the recent rains, our lawns, fields and trees have recovered nicely but our rivers and lakes are desparately low.
Many of us enjoyed the sunny afternoon with our meeting at the top of the mountain at the North Fork ranch. Thanks to Shirley and Ellsworth for making this a unique meeting venue and another enjoyable event for all of us. Memorable too was the special serenade to Ralph Lemke; “Happy Birthday Mr. President”, performed Marilyn Munroe-style by our wonderful waitress. No doubt we’ll have enjoyed more of the 50’s and 60’s style singing at this Saturday’s Sing-A-Long Grease Movie at Festival Hall. I hear a few of our group are going in full costume.
Thanks to members and friends for the wonderful show of support for our Ottawa Valley Olympian, Melissa Bishop. There were well over eighty antique autos that made up the parade through the village of Eganville in full sunshine. Our cover picture illustrates how special this event was, not only to Eganville, but as well to many from across the Valley. Thanks to all for helping to make this a special day. There was a great write up in the Leader and speaking of that, the latest issue features Ike
and Mike who were at the Renfrew County Plowing Match. Many others of us were on display that day at the Renfrew Fair Grounds for a great car show. Mario and Carol headed to Stowe, Vermont in their TR6 to a British Car Show that attracts about a thousand British classic cars, with the added bonus of a British Invasion style band of ‘Beatle-look-a-likes’, We will get to hear about all of these events at our next meeting.
Many of our members and the Antique Car Tunes Band entertained with cars and music at Supples Landing on Sept. 19th evening.
Oktoberfest takes place in Ladysmith a bit earlier this year - the last weekend of September. As other years, we will be leaving TerMarsch’s at 9am sharp on the Sunday the 30th, others will be joining in at the Four Corners at Cheneaux. Registration at Ladysmith begins at 10:00 am, with the Parade at noon. There’s always a lot to see with artisans and vendors of crafts, furniture, and homemade goodies. The club always receives an invitation from the organizers. This year the German bands include: Shteev und die Lederhosers and the Schuhplattler German Dancers will entertain us all day.
The October meeting will take place October 3rd, at The Sands on Golden Lake. (Hwy 60 at Deacon 613-625-2525). Dinner will be served at 6:00 pm, followed by the meeting downstairs at 7:00 pm. A special well-priced four-entrée menu is being offered as before.
Remember to bring your auction items. One of our major investors, Myrna and Lorne are back now back from New Brunswick and no doubt they will be anxious to purchase some new treasures to catch up for lost time.
Looking forward to seeing you all soon, best wishes to all for pleasant and safe journeys. Delores
