Seasons Greetings to all:

We trust that you enjoyed Christmas with family and friends, with lots of laughter, food and song. This season brings families together as do our events and tours that build on the bond of members sharing the common interests of our hobby.

Our Christmas banquet was a big success, many members and guests have attested to that. Thanks to so many who volunteered their time and efforts, to make it a special evening: Ron Roy our tele-marketer; Wendy, who had the ticket booth at her busy office; Gale who found precious items for door prizes; Lorne & Myrna who prepared the Seniors Centre for the special event and who went back the following day for clean up. Thanks also to Neil and Lori, Bob and Mae, Ron and Dawn and Kathy
and Jeff. Our servers ‘Good Enuf to Eat Catering’ presented a five-star meal with food to spare; what a good choice we made. Thanks to Santa who took the time to fly in from his northern post to share some stories and laughter. I know I have seen that face before – how about you? Thanks as well, to my chums, the Antique Car Tunes, who kept things lively with festive and familiar tunes.

A big thanks to all who go that extra mile to make our Club what it is today. Speaking of that, congratulations go to Mae and Bob McCauley, most deserving recipients of the President’s award for overall attendance/participation in 2011. Congratulations to Neil Videto, who was presented with the ‘Crank of the Year’ award. It takes that special ‘turn of the crank’ to get things started and rolling, typical of Neil and Lori’s dedication to club functions.

Looking back, our past president Wayne has provided us with innovative ideas at meetings and on tours, with the return of some traditional events and introduction of new ones. On behalf of the club, I take this opportunity to thank him and First Lady Christina for the success of 2010 and 2011.

Starting off as the club’s first lady Pres., I must say that this is a new experience for me, as it is for you. I look forward to the next two years of filling these shoes. In this term we will reach the fifty-year milestone for ACCP. With your support, we will continue to build on fellowship and fun and being there for one another.

Happy New Year to all! We’ll see you at Champlain Museum, on January 4th.

Hello again everyone. This edition of the president’s page will be my last for the foreseeable future as our club has a new executive, which was acclaimed at our last general meeting. Thank you Lorne and Ron for your excellent work on the nominating committee. I congratulate everyone that has been chosen to fill these positions. This new executive begins a new era for our club as Delores Lemkay was acclaimed as our first female president. I look forward to the next two years and have every confidence in the ability of the people we have chosen to serve us. This club is an exceptional group of people and as I look back on my term as president I want to thank all of you for making it a very enjoyable experience.
This year TerMarsch Fuels of Pembroke celebrates 60 years in business and on behalf of the membership I congratulate them on their longstanding commitment of service to their customers and to our club. Members of the TerMarsch family have been involved with this club since its early years and Wendy TerMarsch continues this family tradition, as she remains in the position of treasurer for another term.
Our last social event of this year is the Christmas Shine, which will include a catered meal and an evening of fun and frolic at Victoria Hall in Pembroke on Dec.10th. Tickets are available from Wendy at TerMarsch Fuels on Boundary Road in Pembroke. Thanks to all the members that are contributing to the organization of this event.
Our last general meeting will be at the Champlain Trail Museum on Dec.7th at 7pm. Something to remember is the proceeds from the auction held at our December meeting will go toward the cost of our Christmas Shine.

President's Page November 2011

Hello again everyone. Its that time of year again when we have a great number of things to get done before the cold old winter sets in. By now I would assume most of the old cars have been stored for the season. Mine is parked and just needs the battery taken out as I keep it inside for the winter. I must have put less than a thousand kilometres on the old truck this year as we rarely got out to any shows and as some may know I didn’t take it on the annual Ladysmith Oktoberfest tour. Some say I wimped out because of the rain that day and I’ll let that reason stand, as it’s partly true. Actually my wiper system is very poor and if you can’t see well, things can get a little dangerous on the road.
I hope everyone has enjoyed the great weather we’ve had this year. It takes me back to the summers I remember on the farm when I was young. I think most of us in this area have spent some time on a farm during their lives. Those days still remain some of my best memories, the work was hard, the days were long and hot, but I’d go back if only I could. Life was so much simpler then and it seemed we had more time to enjoy ourselves or do we just remember the good times. Whatever the case, life has no reverse gear so its full speed ahead to wherever that is.
Christina and I are already dreaming of a trip south this winter, so I’m looking around on the web for something suitable. I’m not sure when and where just yet, hopefully we’ll find something we want. Whatever happens I am already looking forward to getting away. We take very little vacation time in the summer, but sure look forward to those times we can get away from the cold. After a few trips south I think I’ve got spoiled and the winter seems so long without a break.
Nominations for our next executive will be held at our November general meeting and we will also firm up the details for our Christmas Shine, our last big event of the year, to be held at Victoria Hall in Pembroke. The meeting is at the Joeys Only Restaurant in Pembroke on Wed. November 2, at 6:30 pm. Our last meeting there had our largest attendance yet for a dinner meeting. So until then or the next time we meet, keep the rubber side down.

Hello again everyone, it’s now officially fall and we’ll soon be putting the old cars away again. I hope that won’t be for some time yet as there are some events coming up we like to attend. The annual Octoberfest celebration in Ladysmith is coming up and anyone who wants to join the gang that are driving up there, be at TerMarsch Fuels on Boundary Rd. Oct.2 by 9am to join the convoy. Something else that may interest you is a Pig Roast at the Dore Bay Country Club on Oct. 15th. The meal is $14.00/plate and the fun is free. For directions or times call Dave and Delores Lemkay.
This past month has been busy, starting with a dinner meeting at the Sands on Golden Lake on Sept.7th. Anyone who attended was treated to a magnificent sunset over the lake, along with a great meal. That restaurant has to be one of my favourite spots for an evening meal.
Various car shows were held around the area with the one in Renfrew on Sept. 17th being quite large as over 200 cars were registered.
Our Rodeo and Fun Golf Day on Sept. 18th went very well. The weather was great, the food was fantastic and the location was perfect for the event. On behalf of the club I wish to thank all those that helped organize, host and serve their fellow club members during this event. Special thanks to Ralph Lemke and Marilyn Simpson who spent a lot of time preparing the venue for this event. As always, the meal provided by our own “chef extraordinaire” Shannon and her loyal helper Tom was superb. Anyone that missed this event missed a truly great day. Dave and Addie Lemkay won the rodeo-driving event with the lowest overall score. Numerous prizes were awarded for the most successful golfers and again the fun was free.
Our next general meeting will follow dinner at Joey’s Only in Pembroke on Oct.5th. Dinner is at 6.30pm. with the meeting immediately after. Hope to see you there.

Hello again everyone! I promised my wife that I wouldn’t start my monthly message talking about the weather, so here goes. I hope every one has been as busy as I have been this last month. It seems I’m either slowing down or the world is speeding up because the days go by and I don’t seem to get a lot accomplished. I did manage to get some items on the “Honeydew” list done, but the list seems longer now than it was before.
The recent weeks have seen a number of car shows take place in the valley. I know some of you have enjoyed most of them. Chris and I haven’t been to very many this year so far but hope to catch a few yet before the season is over.
Our recent President’s Tour went quite well and those that made the tour were treated to a very enjoyable stop at a local couples home. I can safely say you haven’t seen anything like the collection of cars they have. I hinted to the people on tour that we were going to a car show with at least a thousand cars. I was wrong, they had over two thousand cars on display. For those that didn’t make the tour, the cars were Hot Wheels miniature cars still in their original packaging on display. This display plus the full size autos and other memorabilia made for a very interesting time.
Our next event is the Sunset Dinner Cruise Aug. 17th.and indications are that it’s a go, with enough people signed up. I’m looking forward to this myself.
Next we have a Fun Golf Day on Aug 20th at Ralph and Marilyn’s country place on Baron Canyon Road. Details were in the July Quail. Sounds like this will be fun.
Our next general meeting will follow dinner at the Sands on Golden Lake at 630pm. on Sept. 7th. Hope to see you there.

Hello again everyone! How do you like the summer so far? Before we complain about the heat we should remember how much we looked forward to this back in January. But as I write this it’s HOT and it’s been HOT and tomorrow is going to be HOT but I’m not complaining! We have air conditioning in the house and my bike has “free-air” conditioning so I can cool off when needed. I feel for those people that have to work hard in this heat but I hope most of you are staying cool and lets hope we don’t get any more wicked thunderstorms. Our power was out for almost two days this last week after this last storm. Thankfully we suffered no wind damage as some of my neighbours did. Hope you all were as lucky.
We have a number of events coming up soon, aside from the numerous car shows around the valley.
On August 6th Chris and I have a tour planned that will leave TerMarsch Fuels at 1pm. We will tour around some local areas, making a stop at an interesting place that should entertain most of us for a while. Then we’re on the road again for a short time to our home where there will be a meal. So pack your lawn chairs and your appetites and b.y.o.b. if you care to. Hopefully the weather will be pleasant and we can enjoy a day in the sun. Please contact me at 613-735-1729 if you are planning to be on this tour.

On Aug 20th a Fun Golf Day is planned at Ralph and Marilyn’s country place, details are also in the July Quail, so practice your swing and I’ll bring a hammer to straighten any clubs that may get bent.

Welcome to summer everyone! It’s another beautiful day in the valley. The weather has been just great lately, which is helping to make up for the very wet spring we’ve had.
The last few weeks have been quite busy with local activities including the recent Expo 150. I was able to attend for almost two days so I took in most of the sites and thoroughly enjoyed it all. I commend all the volunteers that helped during the show. I must say Graham Wall and his team of volunteers put on what has to be the largest car show that Renfrew County has ever seen. There was so much to see and the car show was a big part of the event. I know many of the volunteers who helped Graham were also club members, so to you all I say “Thanks” from all of us who got to enjoy it.
The next month will be very busy with the many upcoming car shows and cruise nights in the area. I hope to attend at least some of them. One of the next events very popular in the area is the Strawberry Social held at the Champlain Trail Museum in Pembroke on June 26. As usual the club members have been invited to bring their vehicles to display for the day. I’ve been told the restored Bickle fire engine will be on display and for anyone who hasn’t seen it yet it is well worth coming out to see. The volunteers who took on that restoration project should be very proud of their accomplishment. The event runs from about 11:30am to 3pm or so.
As always watch your Quail for upcoming events and join us at the monthly meeting, which will be held outdoors at the marina in Pembroke on July 6th at 7pm. To find us take the Albert St. entrance to the marina. Our cars will be parked in the lot to your right just over the tracks and the meeting will be on the grass to your left of the Albert St. entrance. We are unable to park on the grass, as the city will not allow us to do so. Hope to see you there and by the way if it rains we will find shelter somewhere. Don’t forget to bring your own chairs or a good strong knee to sit on.
