Hello everyone! It’s hard to believe how cold this spring has been. I hope May brings some warmer weather so we can get the cars out for a cruise. I’m sure most of you have the batteries charged and in by now and maybe you have already had your old baby out for a run. I haven’t got mine going yet but hope to this weekend.
This past weekend twelve club members toured up to the Mapleton House in Hardwood Lake for a brunch. Most people may remember this restaurant as Nolet’s Pancake House but it seems the name and ownership has changed. I’m sure everyone enjoyed the meal, as the food was very good. The restaurant itself is something to see as it is constructed from rough sawn squared timbers and is quite large. If you know the area you can imagine how beautiful it must be in the fall when the leaves are in full colour. This could be a great place for a fall cruise.
On the way home to Pembroke we stopped at the legendary Al Capone’s hideout for a short walkabout. The log building is still fairly solid but it’s now home to all kinds of wildlife. Bob McCauley remembers that the club visited the hideout years ago and took pictures of the old cars there. My father was raised about a quarter mile down the road from this place and the local people swear that it was indeed Al Capone’s Canadian getaway at one time. Who knows what kinds of dastardly deeds were hatched over the table there.
We have a good number of upcoming events in the near future so watch for them in the Quail and of course our next meeting is at the museum on Wednesday May 4th at 7p.m. Hope to see you there.
Wayne
